Hand Painted Porcelain Face Cups: Brown Woman
Hand Painted Porcelain Face Cups: Brown Woman
My hand built tripod cups are a labor of love! A very different and slower process than throwing a cup on a wheel, the hand built cups take time. First a slab is rolled on my slab roller; then it is smoothed out. When it is dry enough to form into a cylinder, the edges are joined and smoothed out, and the bottom is pinched into three points of a triangle. Then I roll out little balls and carefully attach them to the bottom.
I have been experimenting with colored slips made with mason stains, and paint those onto the surface of the cup. Since I love drawing faces, I began a new series with painted faces. These cups have been a delight to make.
Each cup holds 6 ounces of liquid. I hope you enjoy using them as much as I enjoyed painting them.
Each cup measures 4” x 3 1/2” x 3 1/4”. These are best hand washed with care.
